Nonye is a Communications Specialist with over 15 years’ strategic brand experience gained in the UK, South Africa and Nigeria. She also contributes to a number of African media titles and has been a Guest Lecturer at Gordon’s Institute of Business to full time MBA students on Executing Marketing Strategies in Africa and senior executives on Doing Business in Nigeria.
Nonye is focused on integrated communications using traditional and online media to achieve successful campaigns. She is also passionate the growth of economies on the African continent and has been described as a Global African Communicator, a detailed Corporate Strategist as profiled by Marketing World and one of the Key Women in Marketing and Communications.
Nonye has gained extensive experience within the global branding and advertising spheres having started her career in London at Maynard Leigh Associates; followed by TMP Worldwide. She has worked in a number of leading firms in Europe and in other parts of Africa including Jupiter Drawing Room, Johannesburg; FCB, Durban; and Insight grey, Lagos where she was Director of Strategic Planning and New Business.
Nonye was also the Group Head of Corporate Communications at Oceanic Bank Nigeria (now Eco bank) where she reported directly to the Group Managing Director and achieved great success in the turnaround of a ‘crisis brand’. She contracted with MultiChoice Africa as Stakeholder and CSV Manager for Africa driving brand positioning across the continent, stakeholder engagement and creating shared value with projects such as the CNN MultiChoice African Journalist Awards the DStv Eutelsat Awards and the implantation of the MultiChoice Resource Centres in addition to showcasing the impact these initiatives’ have had on rural Africa.
She is a holder of a BA Hons in Contemporary Business and Computing from the University of Westminster, London and a member of several professional institutions’. She was also awarded the Brand Leadership Award at the World Brand Congress in Mumbai India 2011 for her professional efforts and creative/strategic excellence.
Born and raised in the UK to South African and Nigerian parents, her diverse upbringing and skill set puts her in a position whereby not only is she fully conversant with local and global trends, she is uniquely able to integrate across cultures and lifestyles.
Nonye is a Freelance writer for Forbes Woman Africa and has notably interviewed the former Minister of Finance Nigeria, Dr Okonjo Iweala, Brand SA Chairperson Charlotte Maponya and one of Africa’s Richest Women, Mrs Folourunso Alakija for Destiny Magazine. With extensive media experience and a passion for impactful communications Nonye is committed to the positive projection of the African continent, and is frequently invited to speak at local and international conferences on Strategic Branding and Business in Africa.
Nonye sits on the Board of NIDO SA (Nigerians in Diaspora South Africa) and is a founding member of the Guild of Nigerian Professionals SA. She also sits on the Brand Africa Counsel an inter-generational movement to create a positive image of Africa.
