Mandela Day 2012
Nelson Mandela said, "Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world." To celebrate Mandela Day, the Vuma Reputation Management team took time off from the office to connect with the Grade 12 learners of Fidelitas High School in Diepkloof, Soweto.
The team was warmly welcomed by Principal Levuwani Ramvhoa together with the well-disciplined learners clad in their purple and white school jerseys and grey trousers.
Geared up to share insight, life experiences and stories of how they overcome challenges to reach for their dreams, the Vuma team paired off and engaged with the Grade 12 learners. The interactive discussions included topics on how to access finance for tertiary studies, how to gain work experience, how to get class mates to listen to them while they're talking, and the chances of getting a job after completing studies.
Nelson Mandela Day resulted in the birth of a communications platform for the school. Six learners who are interested in a career in the media industry decided that their first step would be to coordinate and manage the school newsletter, which will assist them in gaining experience and developing their writing skills.
After hearing touching stories, eager questions and sharing many laughs, Vuma gave a little extra in the form of magazines, calendars, educational brochures, lanyards and pens, and fruit packs.
The Vuma team was thanked by the pupils and Principal Ramvhoa and a lifelong bond was formed.
